What is Fishing Buddy?
Fishing Buddy is FishMap's way to connect anglers near each other. Swipe through profiles, mutually match, and share the contact channels you chose — email or Instagram. Perfect for finding someone to take out on the boat, split fuel costs, learn fly fishing from, or just hang out at the shore with.
How do I find a fishing partner near me?
Activate Fishing Buddy, allow an approximate location (rounded to the nearest ~5 km before it ever leaves your device) and pick a search radius. We show profiles of other opted-in anglers in your area. You only see distance in km — never a map or exact coordinates.
Who can use it?
Fishing Buddy is for people 18 or older. You need a FishMap account and a filled-out profile with a photo and a short bio. Age confirmation and consent happen once, at activation.
Are my contact details shared automatically?
No. Email and Instagram are shared only after a mutual match — and only the channels you ticked yourself. You can pause your profile, change what you share, or delete your Fishing Buddy profile at any time.
Does it cost anything?
No, Fishing Buddy is completely free. FishMap is funded by community donations.
How do we help each other become better anglers?
The point is that anglers of every skill level meet — beginners learn from the experienced, and veterans get fresh inspiration. Filter on 'learn fly fishing', 'local guide', 'take me on the boat' or 'ice fishing' based on what you're looking for.
