My story

My name is Filip Nyman and I love fishing. From perch fishing as a kid to long days chasing pike and trout in Swedish lakes — the water has always been my place. Sharing knowledge, spots and small discoveries is what makes fishing fun. Nature should be easy to access, whether you've fished for 30 years or just bought your first rod. That's why I built FishMap — a fishing app where Swedish sport and hobby anglers log catches, discover new waters and share tips completely free.

My best fishing tips

  • Perch on small spinners — 5–10 g jigs and spoons catch perch almost year-round. Fish close to reed edges and rocky bottoms.
  • Pike at dawn and dusk — work reedy bays with a large jerkbait when the light is low. Early morning beats midday almost every time.
  • Fly fishing for trout — running water and a small nymph just under the surface is unbeatable in spring.
  • Ice fishing with balance jigs — jig vertically over depth edges and vary your rhythm until you find the day's tempo.
  • Read the weather — steady pressure and light clouds beat sunshine and glass-flat water for most species. Check the forecast in the map.

My favorite thing about fishing

My favorite thing is finding a small lake deep in the forest, preferably in the middle of nowhere — and actually managing to hike there. Backpack on, map in hand, a few kilometers of trail, a silent tarn with not a single boat in sight. That's where fishing is at its best: you, the water and the feeling that nobody has been there for a long time. That's also where FishMap comes in — I want more people to find their own forest lakes through the map and the lake directory.
